What is Wedding and Event Floristry?
The Wedding and Event Floristry course is a self-paced online course in the specialist side of floristry: client consultations, proposals and budgets, venue planning and logistics, and building ceremony, bridal and reception flowers. It builds on foundation design skills, so it suits florists and confident home florists who want to specialise in weddings and events.
Course overview
Every wedding is a project. Learn to run it.
You can make a beautiful bouquet, but could you get 40 centrepieces to a venue, fresh and in place, by 2pm? Event floristry is design plus project management. This course teaches the whole job: winning the booking, planning to the venue and the season, getting stock there in good shape, and building pieces that hold up from the ceremony to the last dance.
- Consult and win the booking – Handle enquiries, run consultations, build mood boards and present a proposal that works within the client's budget.
- Plan to the venue and the season – Analyse the venue, draw a floor plan, plan around Australian seasons and weather, and build a project schedule and purchase list.
- Deliver on the day – Transport, process and store stock, then run bump-in, on-site fine-tuning and bump-out.
- Build event-scale florals – Arches, aisle décor and hanging pieces; bridal bouquets and personal florals; centrepieces, long-and-low tables and installations.
Ready to say yes to your next wedding enquiry with confidence?
Who this course is for
- Working florists who want to take on weddings and events as well as the daily order book.
- Floristry graduates who've learned the foundations and are ready to specialise.
- Wedding and event professionals (stylists, planners and venue coordinators) who want to bring flowers in-house.
- Confident home florists planning a freelance wedding-flower business.
New to floristry? This course focuses on event work and assumes you already have foundation design skills. If you're starting from scratch, Advanced Floristry teaches the foundations first and then includes this full module.
What you'll study
You'll start with the Student Induction and the Floristry Student Induction, which get you set up on the learning platform. Then you'll work through three core modules.
Module 1: Wedding & Event Floristry FLW-402 (6 units)
The core of the course. Three theory units cover the business of an event; three practical units have you build the pieces.
- Event Coordination and Client Relationships – the enquiry process, planners versus direct clients, consultations, event layout, budgets, themes, mood boards, proposals, approval and payment.
- Planning and Executing the Client's Vision – venue analysis, floor plans and placement, weather and Australian seasonal planning, when to buy flowers and foliage, schedules, purchase lists and budget tracking.
- Sourcing & Logistics – picking up and transporting stock, processing, hydration, conditioning and storage, final prep, and bump-in and bump-out schedules.
- Ceremony Arrangements – arches, aisle décor, hanging and vertical arrangements, and garlands.
- Personal Florals – bridal bouquets and the other flowers the wedding party wears or carries.
- Reception and Event Florals – centrepieces, long-and-low horizontal table arrangements, multipurpose bespoke pieces and large-scale installations.
Module 2: Floristry Social Media Marketing (5 interactive units)
A practical introduction to marketing a small business on social media, delivered as five short interactive units. You'll apply it to showcasing your event work and finding new clients.
Module 3: Floristry Small Business Kickstarter (6 units)
Event work runs on deposits, schedules and good records. This module sets up the business that supports it.
- Your Business – mind-map your event-floristry idea and turn it into a business plan.
- Market Research – research couples, planners, venues and competitors in your area.
- Preparing for business and putting plans into action – practical set-up steps.
- Admin – Record Keeping/Bookkeeping – the records a small business must keep.
- Accounting and Taxes – ABN, GST and tax basics in Australia.
- Start the business – launch.
How you'll learn and be assessed
- Three practical builds – ceremony, personal and reception florals, each submitted as photo or video evidence with a written task, and marked by your tutor with personalised feedback.
- A real job as your case study – across Units 1–3 you follow a real wedding florist's job from first enquiry to event day, with sample date-check, budget and schedule documents. It's a compulsory feedback task rather than a graded assessment.
- Behind the scenes – a video of a real wedding shows arrangements in place, transport, bump-in and bump-out, and an event florist's emergency kit.
- Quizzes and competency-based feedback – each unit has a knowledge check. If a build isn't quite there yet, your tutor tells you what to improve and you resubmit. No exams to sit in a centre.
Your floristry kit for event work
A professional floristry kit is included and delivered to your door (tracking sent within about 3 weeks of enrolling). It includes secateurs, flower snips, rose stripper, pliers, floral and bind wire, floral foam bricks and a wreath ring, ceramic vase and pot, posy boxes, ribbons, wrapping papers and cello, pearl pins, chicken wire, cut-flower food, an apron and a floristry tool bag, plus a sketch pad and colour pencils. Fresh flowers and foliage aren't included. You'll source seasonal stems locally, and the course shows you how to choose and condition them.
Tailor your course with add-on modules
Make the course fit the business you're building. You can tailor Wedding and Event Floristry with add-on modules from our catalogue and pick up extra skills that match your business or career plans.
Agricultural Marketing
Sell what you grow for a better return: marketing strategy, target markets, produce handling, customer relationships, market research and promotion. The strategy, target-market, customer-relations and promotion units apply directly to selling wedding packages: who your ideal client is, how to reach them, and how to keep planners and venues sending you work.
Horticulture Resource Management
The business side of horticulture: researching and starting or buying a horticulture business, decision-making, managing people and physical resources, and professional obligations. For the running of an event-floristry studio: due diligence before you start or buy, managing extra hands for big weekends, and the resources and processes that keep jobs on schedule.
Ask a course consultant about adding modules when you enrol.
Career pathways and earning potential
Wedding and event floristry is planned, project-based work, done in studios, at venues and freelance. Roles graduates often explore include:
- Wedding florist – consulting with couples, then designing, building and installing their ceremony, bridal and reception flowers. No separate wedding-florist salary data exists; for florists overall, the median is $62,500 a year (advertised full-time salaries), SEEK.
- Event florist or floral stylist – flowers for functions, corporate events, editorial shoots and photography.
- Venue floral coordinator – managing the flowers across a venue's weddings and events.
Figures are advertised salaries (SEEK, Jora) or median full-time earnings (Jobs and Skills Australia), accessed October 2026. Pay varies with experience, location and employer. Figures are a guide only.
