Can you learn floristry online?

Yes. You can learn floristry online by studying design principles, flower care and construction techniques through video and written lessons, then building real arrangements at home and submitting photo or video evidence for tutor feedback. The Ag & Hort School's floristry courses include a professional floristry kit, plus small business and social media modules.

What's in your floristry kit

Your kit arrives at your door with the professional tools and materials used throughout the course:

  • Tools – secateurs, flower snips, rose stripper, pliers, scissors, gloves, apron and floristry tool bag
  • Wires and tapes – floral wire, bind wire, parafilm, pot tape and floral chicken wire
  • Mechanics and containers – floral foam bricks, a foam wreath ring, a ceramic vase and pot, and posy boxes
  • Wrapping and finishing – cello, kraft, non-woven and tissue wrapping, satin and chiffon ribbon, jute twine and pearl pins
  • Care and design – cut-flower food, a sketch pad and colour pencils

Fresh flowers and foliage aren't included. You'll buy seasonal stems locally, and the course shows you how to choose and condition them.

Floristry course FAQs

No licence or registration is required to work as a florist in Australia. Many employers prefer a qualification, though, and the nationally accredited pathway is the Certificate III in Floristry (SFL30115). Our courses are non-accredited, practical courses. They suit people building skills and a portfolio, starting their own floristry business, or going deeper into a hobby.
